Lionel Messi , sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud , but will not go to prison

 

The Court in Barcelona sentenced the Argentine footballer Lionel Messi and his father , Jorge Messi, were sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud , plus fines totaling more than two million euros.

The good news is he will not go to prison. Under Spanish law , when the sentence is less than 24 months and the defendant has no criminal record , the sentence is not met in prison.

Barcelona star and his father were convicted of defrauding 4.1 million euros in image rights of the player during 2007, 2008 and 2009 .
